Send to Serve – Scotland
Fleeta Harris – May & June 2024
Over five decades ago, I began to explore God’s plan for my life. “Make a difference in the lives of others,” was His answer. One of the doors He opened led me to become a teacher for more than 30 years, seeing over 2,500 students pass through my life. I retired but felt that God’s plan for my life was not yet complete. In these “retirement years,” He has blessed me with opportunities to continue to make a difference in the lives of others.
From volunteering as a poll worker, to transitional prison ministry to Wednesday Night Dinners at Westside Baptist Church, God has used me and prepared me for my current Christian ministries. I have been actively involved with Florida Baptist Disaster Relief for 6 years, and with Echo Ranch Bible Camp in Juneau, Alaska, since 2022.
I now have the opportunity to use my educational background skill set volunteering with a Christian Primary School in Scotland in May and June, then I will return to Echo Ranch in July. I am amazed and excited for the doors God has opened to allow me to continue in my quest to “make a difference“ using the talents He has nurtured in me.
“I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here am I, send me.’” -Isaiah 6:8
Alyssa Rose – June & July 2024
Hi! I’m Alyssa Rose. I am an active member in my church and community, and have a desire to grow in my relationship with the Lord everyday. I have been a 5th grade math teacher at LBMS for three years now. I truly love teaching. I went to school at UF and got my degree in FYCS (Family, Youth, and Communities). As I was going to school, I worked as a full time/part time nanny. I loved these kids like my own and still see them from time to time.
Missions has always been something on my heart, but I never felt a direction for where to go and what community to serve. Over the last year, I have prayed for God’s direction and to give me guidance in my current stage of life. And when He gives, He gives! Through prayer, Godly counsel, and reading my Bible, I found that God has fined tuned some gifts in my life that I should be using to serve Him.
I believe God is calling me to serve a missionary family and give them the support they need, whether helping with homeschooling or taking care of the kids, so they can do what the Lord is calling them to do. I truly want to be where I am needed and have been praying for this family for a while. As a teacher, I have time off during the summer, and would love to use some or most of it to help where I can!
